Attack on Ain Amenas in Algeria
The siege by terrorists at Ain Amenas in Algeria signals a significant and troubling change in what Islamic militants are targeting in the region. The terrorists were well armed, and within their operational capabilities. Whether their ultimate goal was to destroy the Natural Gas complex and directly hurt Algeria’s economy, keep hostages for ransom, or both – remains to be seen.
What is clear, however, is that there is a very real and present danger of further terrorist attacks across the North African region on oil & gas facilities. This document addresses the risks and measures that can be taken now, to reduce risk.
